Prostate Gland
What is the prostate gland, or where is the prostate gland is something that many people ask. To know where and what the prostate gland is one must understand a little about the male reproductive system.
Male’s reproductive system
The scrotum and penis is the external parts of the male reproductive system. Inside of these external parts are the vas deferens, testes, urethra, the prostate gland, and then the seminal vesicles.
The purpose of the testes, which creates sperm and is the male’s genes, which after the sperm is produced it is stored within the seminal vesicles. When a man ejaculates, the sperm and semen is carried to the vas deferens. The penis erects the fluids.
The structure of the male’s reproductive system consists of the abdomen wall. The glans penis, which is the part of the penis shaped like a cone at the ends, serves and channels to open the urethra that also transmits semen as well as urine. The glans penis, base is the corona.
The vas deferens transmits sperm from the epididymis, and to the prostate, which is at the middle of the urethra. The spermatic cord is structured from nerve and blood vessels that travel from the vas deferens. The urethra is a tube that discharges urine. The tube carries urine from the bladder and expels it from the body and during ejaculation, it expels semen.
The bladder is near the prostate gland. This gland rests slightly below the bladder, and it surrounds the urethra. The size is compared to a walnut for young men. As the male grows older, however the gland enlarges. If this gland enlarges too much, thus it may block the flow of urine via the urethra.
Just above the prostate gland are the seminal vesicles. These vesicles join with the deferens to form ducts, known as the ejaculatory ducts. These vessels are responsible for the production of fluid in which is produced to nourish sperm.
The prostate gland is a fibrous capsule that connects to the urethra, surrounding the urethra and contains ducts that are formed to secrete alkaline portions of seminal fluid and to open in the Prostatic portion of the urethra.
